2020 Get AMPed! Updates and Case Studies in Molecular Pathology

Presented by the AMP Training & Education Committee

Sunday, November 15, 2020 | 10:30am - 4:40pm (Eastern)

Location: Virtual

DESCRIPTION:

Join us for an interactive course designed to bring you up to speed on the latest technologies in molecular pathology.  In the morning, we will take an exciting look at current molecular hot topics from the AMP president and an up-to-date discussion of SARS-CoV-2 testing. We will then review preanalytical variables that impact molecular testing, testing modalities for the assessment of genome structure, and the application of next generation sequencing and informatics to clinical practice. These sessions will be supplemented by interactive, case-based presentations that will illustrate important teaching points for each topic.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Discuss the current hot topics in molecular pathology.
  • Review the current state of SARS-CoV-2 testing.
  • Identify common preanalytical variables that impact molecular testing.
  • Compare and contrast methods of single nucleotide variant detection, copy number detection, and structural variant (fusions) detection by NGS and other related platforms (for CNVs).
  • Recognize the impact of bioinformatic algorithms on the analysis of NGS data.
  • Discuss the methodologic and clinical considerations of testing by NGS.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Trainees (LGG and MGP), field application specialists, pathologists new to molecular or those who want a refresher, molecular and cytogenetic technologists, and cytogeneticists who wants background in molecular pathology.

WHAT TO EXPECT
In the morning (10:30-2pm ET)
  • A brief lecture series will familiarize you with concepts and recent advances in the field of molecular pathology.
  • These lectures lay a foundation for the case discussions later in the day.
  • All lecture notes and any affiliated materials will be available for download.
  • The presentations will be pre-recorded and aired as scheduled, but you will be able to ask questions to presenters and interact with other attendees during these talks.
In the afternoon (2:10-4:40pm ET)
  • A series of interactive case studies will be presented live. All case studies will include live polling.
  • You can chat with one another and with the instructors in real time.
  • Each case study will allow ample time for Q&A.
Post-course activities
  • You will be sent an email outlining how you can claim continuing education credits.
  • We will also ask you to fill out a brief course evaluation. We value your input!
  • Miss something day of? Registrants for the live virtual meeting will have access to all recordings and course materials until February 15th, 2021.
