“Livin’ La Vida COVID”

We are upholding AMP’s Trainee Luncheon tradition in COVID times by transforming it into a Virtual Happy Hour & Mixer! This virtual event features an opportunity for trainees at all levels to interact and network with peers in their field as well as prominent molecular pathologists. Learn about AMP’s extensive trainee member benefits during the Happy Hour opening, and then join a Mixer session focusing on relevant pandemic topics. Our Mixer sessions this year include: How to make the best out of remote learning, Virtual job interviews tips and tricks, Should I worry about fewer jobs in the field due to COVID?, and finally, the Impact of Molecular Pathology in development and deployment of COVID testing. Join us for this unique and valuable event!

 

Technologist Mixer: Navigating Opportunities for Career Advancement and Certification for Molecular Technologists

Featured Speaker: Susan Beck, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM, UNC Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC, USA

Join us as we provide a road-map for navigating the confusing and sometimes frustrating field of career development in the molecular lab. Whether you are trying to determine your eligibility for molecular certification, deciding which certifying body is best for you, or hoping to increase your certification level and broaden your career opportunities, this happy hour discussion will be an information-packed source for all of your questions.

Dr. Susan Beck will be our featured speaker, and her presentation is titled, “Certification for Molecular Technologists: Understanding Your Options and Opportunities.” Dr. Beck has over 30 years of experience as an educator in clinical laboratory science.  She is the Director of the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She serves as the Program Director for the accredited MLS (Medical Laboratory Science) and DMS (Diagnostic Molecular Science) programs.  She has served in leadership roles in certification for both the National Credentialing Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (NCA) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification.  Her research has focused on educational issues such as defining the knowledge and skills needed for entry into the laboratory profession at various levels of practice and workforce issues including retention of laboratory professionals.

International Affairs Committee Networking Meet-up

The International Affairs Committee will host a virtual event to discuss the issues with SARS-CoV-2 molecular testing during the global pandemic. Join your colleagues from around the world to hear where they succeeded and where they struggled with the different aspects of testing.

Join us to taste through two white wines and two red wines that will all pair well with your holiday dinner. We'll discuss highlights of the regions these wines hail from, common characteristics of these grapes and learn to taste wine like a pro. Please join us for this special event with Annick Febrey, who is a WSET Level 3 (Advanced) Certified Sommelier.

We all know that the AMP Annual Meeting & Expo is a special event.  Not only is it one of education, but also community.  Among many other events throughout the Annual Meeting, the peak celebration of the special AMP community culminates in the Friday night social event.  It’s always a night of talent, music, and dancing……and let’s not forget the YMCA! Although, it will look different this year, we'd like to invite all of you to AMP’s Virtual Talent Show!
